Just a Tiny Intro
I am thrilled to introduce my free, weekly newsletter True Story: The Craft & Commerce of Nonfiction. I’m eager to share what I’ve learned as a nonfiction editor, consultant, and ghostwriter.
My name is Liz Richards O’Leary. I’m a wife, mother to my four children, and dutiful servant to a seven-year-old teacup Chihuahua named Rosita who absolutely hung the moon and stars.
My over two years of freelancing in the nonfiction community and my experience on a corporate publishing editorial staff inform my newsletter’s content. My past clients include CEOs, PhDs, entrepreneurs, sociologists, psychologists, speakers, executives, and business owners. I’m educated through the Editorial Freelancers Association, The Poynter Institute, and the ACES Society for Editing.
If I could tell you only one thing about myself, it would be that I’m overflowing with gratitude for being here with you, for the opportunities I’ve received, and for the work I’ve done to reach this point.
Long before I worked in the publishing industry as a freelancer or otherwise, I knew that one day I was going to write books. That accomplishment has yet to be realized. But the surprising discovery I made through my work is that I’m even more passionate about helping others realize their goals and dreams for their books. I’ve temporarily put my writing path on hold because I have become so very engrossed in playing a support role for authors. This is such a happy place for me and I love helping people believe in themselves and in the work that they’re doing. Next fall, I may pick up where I left off with the book I’m writing. But time will tell and I will reevaluate the project as I go.
I’m here to serve up courage and clarity and be a compass in the wilds of writing and publishing a nonfiction book. I’m here to help you get on your way with that great book idea. True Story will be a melange of writing craft help, industry insights, publishing know-how, and a monthly spotlight on authors and publishing industry professionals.
Join me here. Your audience is waiting.
Much love,
Liz
