Consulting Services

The Book Blueprint Lab

These meetings provide you with customized one-on-one guidance in building your book plan and outline. You can schedule single or multiple consultation sessions depending on your needs. We can work together from start to finish on your full book blueprint, or focus on an area that you feel stuck if you already have a partial plan. This offering meets you where you’re at in the planning process. Maybe you’ve outlined a rough chapter sequence but would like guidance in determining the best structure for your genre. We can do it. Perhaps you have a brilliant concept, a solid thesis, and feel ready to write, but would like help in creating an ideal reader profile. You’ve come to the right place. After our work, you will have a complete plan that will make you productive, provide clarity & direction, and ease anxiety while writing your book.

  • A single session is 75 minutes over Zoom at $55 per session. This is ideal if you just need a boost in your book planning, are uncertain how much coaching time you need, or would like the feedback of an experienced developmental editor while you are in the planning stage. Additional sessions can be scheduled later if needed.

  • This package includes six Zoom sessions totaling 225 minutes at an investment of $310. This is ideal if you have a great book idea and are ready to take action.

  • Upon completion of our strategy sessions, you will receive the written Blueprint for your book based on our determinations in working together.

From Here to Publish & Beyond

(the general strategy session)

I’m thrilled to provide budget-friendly, customized strategic guidance. With this service, you define the topics that need to be covered to move forward on your author's journey. Maybe you are an author who desires to self publish, but doesn’t know where to start and would like to create an actionable plan. Maybe you want to find out more about writing a book proposal in order to query agents. Perhaps you’d like guidance on tactics to build your author following. All topics are welcome related to writing and publishing. These sessions are about getting the information you need and having a plan in your hand to move from here to the publish finish line—with success!

  • The single session is 75 minutes at an investment of $55 and will be held over a Zoom call.

  • Six Zoom calls up to 75 minutes each at a total package price of $310.

  • After the session, you will receive a written summary of the determinations of the consultation.

Book Editing

Developmental Editing

  • Begins at 3.0 cents per word

  • During this phase, I evaluate the manuscript concept, thesis, titling, pacing, voice consistency, organization and development of the material, and more.

  • I will create a thorough report to suggest interventions and changes to align your book with its purpose, genre convention, and reader expectations. For this stage, I do not initially make any changes to your manuscript. I will use in-line comments in Tracked Changes to correlate with the written report, and we can create an implementation plan that works for you. We will have ongoing communication throughout the process.

  • This process typically takes eight weeks. This is the first stage in the editing process. Sometimes, authors hire the developmental editor early in outlining and writing. Others wait until they have a complete, self-edited manuscript. Any stage is welcome to submit an inquiry!

Line Editing

  • Begins at 2.8 cents per word

  • The goal at this stage is to evaluate the manuscript at the line level to ensure content sequence and structure that supports big-picture unity and clarity, and the syntax informs the story following a cohesive path.

  • I will make two editing passes, and my feedback will include Tracked Changes, in-line comments, a detailed style sheet, and an editorial report.

  • This editing phase typically takes three to six weeks and will be determined upon consultation. Line editing comes after developmental editing on the path to being ready to publish.

Copyediting

  • Begins at 2.8 cents per word

  • This stage will correct mechanical errors, check facts, prevent libel, check sources cited, ensure the text flows easily, eliminate redundancies, enforce style, and more.

  • I will make two editing passes, and my feedback will include Tracked Changes, in-line comments, a detailed style sheet, and an editorial report.

  • This phase typically takes two to four weeks and comes after line editing.

Once you’ve received my edits, you’ll accept/reject suggestions and return the manuscript to me for a last-pass tidy so the final version is ready for formatting.

Proofreading

  • Begins at 1.4 cents per word

  • This last phase before print ensures total accuracy—I will check punctuation, spelling, headers and footers, orphans and widows, verify formatting, and more.

  • I will return a corrected clean copy through MS Word.

If I’m proofreading the formatted version, I will email the client and formatting services to communicate the needed corrections unless otherwise specified.

  • This stage typically takes one to three weeks and is done after formatting. I am more than happy to accommodate deadlines!

Ghostwriting Services

Book Ghostwriting

  • Pricing begins at $12,000

  • After signing a contract, I will conduct a series of interviews (preferably over Zoom or in person) to establish the client’s voice and create an outline. Depending on the project, the total number of meetings can range from a few to a dozen (or more if needed). These meetings are usually scheduled twice a week in the beginning and then taper to once a week. As I write, I will send each chapter for review. Upon completing the book, a Zoom meeting will be scheduled to address any outgoing questions and discuss further plans. At this point, we will establish the editing schedule should the client include my editing services after completion of the writing.
